Induction

Postby wuxiheather » Thu Nov 12, 2009 12:26 am

I am currently one day overdue with my first baby. 6 days ago my doctor said he thinks the baby weighed 8-8.5lbs. When I went in again 2 days ago he said he wanted to schedule an induction for me. I am 70% effaced but not dialated at all. He scheduled a Cervidil induction beginning Monday night (4 days from now) and then he'll start the Petocin Tuesday morning. I am super nervous and really want to have a vaginal delivery. I know there are some circumstances that would obviously make it so I had to have a c-section but I want to do all I can do ensure vaginal delivery if possible. My friend says chances for c-section go up 40% with induction. But then again if we let the baby grow too much more my chances would obviously go up then too. Also I haven't heard many good things about the Cervidil inductions. Please let me know any thoughts and advice on the issue.

If it were me, I would hold out. There is a chance your baby is not quite that big, plus women deliver 10, 12, even 14 lb babies perfectly safely. You obviously should do what feels right to you, but that is my opinion. Good luck, and congrats on your soon to be bundle of joy!
