Preschool at home

Postby thesweetmom » Mon Jun 29, 2009 1:00 pm

Me and a couple other moms are getting together to come up with our own lesson plans for our 3 year olds this fall. Has anyone ever done preschool before? Did you find any websites that were helpful? I'm totally new to this, but I just can't afford to pay for preschool right now, so I thought it would be fun to rotate teaching it between other moms in my neighborhood. Know what I mean?

I think that sounds like a great idea. My kids have always went to Preschool but I think you could buy some books at Walmart and plan a lesson off that. Find some fun songs and crafts!

I did home preschool with all of my kids. It's so much fun and it's super simple. All my kids are past the preschool stage so I don't have the sites anymore. But if I run across anything I will let you know. :)

I did at home preschool with my (soon-to-be) 11 year old. I didn't have the internet at that time. I'm also starting home preschool with my (soon-to-be) 3 year old. I'm not using the internet, though. Mostly just instinct and learning as we go along.

I am curious as to why you ladies do the preschool at home instead of sending them to a preschool?

I did preschool at home for all of my kids because I felt it was more beneficial for me to teach them. Now let me also say that each of them did attend preschool for one year to get used to the schedule and social aspect of things.

If Scott wasn't so against it, I would do home school.

I didn't send my kids to preschool because I can't afford it. There's only one preschool in this area and they charge $165/week. That is ridiculous, IMO.

$165/week! Wow! I don't think I know anyone who could afford that.

The preschools in my area are run by grandma type of ladies in their homes and are more reasonable- about $75/month, going 2 days/week for 2 1/2 hours per day.

I think one reason for doing preschool yourself is you get control over what your child is exposed to. Kids are so impressionable at that age. Let us know how it goes, okay?

I also have a 3-yr-old that does not go to preschool. We are moving to Utah in May and I just realized that there is no state funded preschool there, so I'll have to teach her at home unless I can find a good part time preschool for her. With my 7-yr-old we did little workbooks bought from wal-mart or bookstores to teach her letters and numbers and all that. She enjoyed the workbooks and would sit and do them for hours. My younger daughter will not sit still to do those workbooks, she's so different from her older sister. I don't know how to teach her other than through playing games. Anyone have ideas for teaching a busy child?
